Hot Memphis 4 to perform at TEP Gumbo Contest

Tennessee Equality Project is pleased to announce that the Hot Memphis 4 will perform at the TEP Gumbo Contest on February 8, 2015 at Bridges. Past attendees will recognize many of the performers from last year's event including Jeremy Shrader.

Tennessee Equality Project invites you join Shelby County's Gumbo Planning Committee meeting. Volunteers are needed to plan for the TEP Gumbo Contest, live music, decorations, awards for Champions of Equality in West Tennessee, and much more.

TEP to offer Giving Circle Prizes to New Donors at Gumbo Contest

At this year's Mardi Gras Party and Gumbo Contest, participants who commit to becoming new one-time or sustaining donors to Tennessee Equality Project will be eligible to win special prize packages. New donors or current donors who increase their commitment to TEP at the gumbo contest will be included in drawings according to their level of commitment within TEP's Giving Circles:

  • Governor Circle ($1200 or $100/month): $100 Gift Certificate to Chef Gary Williams' DeJavu Restaurants + 2 tickets to Playhouse on the Square (POTS)* performances OR a $100 Gift Certificate to Chef Kelly English's Restaurant Iris or The Second Line + 2 tickets to POTS performances*
  • Lt. Governor Circle ($900 or $75/month): 6 tickets to performances at POTS*
  • Speaker Circle ($600 or $50/month): 4 tickets to performances at POTS *
  • Senator Circle ($300 or $25/month): 2 drawings for 2 tickets to POTS*
  • ANY Circle: Two season ticket memberships for 2014-2015 to Theater Memphis (12 tickets in all excluding A Christmas Carol). Must be present at the end of the contest to receive this prize.

Purchase your TEP Gumbo Contest tickets in advance

The TEP Gumbo Contest at the Bridges Center on Feb. 23, 2014 from 4:30 - 7 PM is less than one month away. 

Gumbo tasting tickets for may be purchased for $25 per person ($15 for persons under 21 years old) in advance or at the event. Tickets include:
  • gumbo tasting
  • voting in the People’s Choice Competition
  • live music from the Mighty Souls Brass Band 
  • beer or soft drink ticket 
All participants will be required to present a valid, government issued Photo ID to consume beer at the contest.

All 16 team slots for the TEP Gumbo Contest have sold out! Those who wished to compete but did not register will have to wait until 2015 to demonstrate their culinary prowess. 

We are deeply grateful for the new and returning teams who will make the 2014 competition a memorable and tasty event. The Gumbo Contest Planning Committee invites you to sample some of the best gumbo in Memphis and Shelby County on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 4:30 PM at the Bridges Center. 

We encourage gumbo teams to invite their friends and supporters to TEP Gumbo Contest. Your friends and family may help you win a coveted People's Choice Award. General Admission tickets include a ticket used to cast votes for the best gumbo and may be purchased for $25 (21 and over) or $15 (under 21). Click HERE to buy tickets.

Registration is a two step process. After paying for registration, your team representative will be given a link to an online form to provide essential details about your team: team name, team leader, phone number, mobile number, names of the other team members type of gumbo, heat source for your gumbo and email address.
